P1A

This is a group project.

During P1A is when I was having the worst time I had in the semester, I genuinely felt lost in the first 2-3 weeks of the semester. Also, because of some family matters, I went back earlier during the site visit which I was feeling bad of. Luckily, even with the least amount of people among all groups, our group still worked as hard as we can to finish the job. Even though the outcome was not as good as we would like, I still think the idea and the way we approach the site is very nice. I also would like to thank our tutor Ar. Jas for guiding us, and also our leader Stefanie for leading the group.

P1B

During the early stages of ideation, I wanted to do something that relates to motorsport because I got into motorsport a lot in the year. The first thing that came to my mind is the “Mat Rempit” or in English term, Illegal motorcycle racing that my groupmate observed while they were on the site visit. The idea of trying to convert the Mat Rempit culture that is already existing in Ipoh into a more healthier and legal activity, such as cycling. When I was proposing this to my tutor, he wanted me to do more site research on the cycling culture of Ipoh and also open up to explore other type of cycling. My initial idea was to have the building to be a gathering spot where they would come over rent bike or something and then travel out to visit the murals and heritage building.

During P1B presentation, Mr Manny suggested me to have different levels of cycling (eg. leisure, competitive, tourism) because he felt that my programme needed more depth rather just having only one activity that the user can do.

P1C

During this stage of the project, Ar. Jas suggested me to do more perspective drawing to explore the form of my building. In the meantime, I also tried to include more cycling activities.

In the interim presentation, Mr Eric suggested me to be more inclusive with the programme, because my building was only focusing on cyclists, therefore people other than cycling would not find my building to be appealing. Moreover, Mr Eric also asked me to do a precedent study for the programme of my building. After the interim, I was able to further improve my building, with the help and guidance from Ar. Jas.

In the final stage, I printed some of the drawings out and Ar. Jas helped me to see if my drawing conventions are fine, and give suggestion and corrections on how I should do my drawing.

Reflection

Overall, this semester is a rollercoaster full of ups and downs, it is also a semester full of growth. I thank every lecturers and tutors for the help on guiding me through my journey to my final design.

Through this semester, I have acquired a number of TGCs and the TGC that I acquired through projects of Architectural Design Project are:

TGC 3.2: Identifying and analyzing problems is crucial for devising effective solutions, especially since unexpected challenges often arise during projects. Quick and thorough problem analysis is necessary to develop timely and viable solutions.

TGC 7.1: Recognizing and taking into account diverse perspectives is essential when shaping opinions. In Project 1, a variety of opinions emerged regarding the design, and I honed the skill of actively listening to comprehend the needs and concerns of everyone involved. This skill proved instrumental in creating a design that incorporated ideas from all parties.
